Airsoft Spring Guns: Continuing a Father-Son Tradition

Stephen paused while the Internet search engine retrieved the results of his search for “airsoft spring guns.” He remembered when his father, Paul, gave him his first airsoft gun for his eighth birthday. He could hardly believe that his own son’s eighth birthday was just three weeks away.

Russell, Stephen’s boy, was a rowdy and rambunctious youth who delighted in accompanying his father on hunting trips—just as Stephen had enjoyed hunting with his own father.

As Stephen mulled over his options, his wife, Crystal, came into the den where Stephen was sitting at the computer.

“What’re you doing, Steve?” she asked him.

“Looking for a gun for Russ. Remember we talked about me getting him an airsoft?”

Crystal approached her husband and bent over his shoulder to see what he was looking at.

“Oh, Steve, not the pistol! Let’s start him out on a rifle, don’t you think?” Crystal, like most mothers, was worried about the idea of her son having any kind of gun at all. However, Stephen had explained to her that despite the aggressive appearance of airsoft guns, they were really very safe. And he assured his wife that their boy would have all the necessary protective gear—goggles, a bright orange tip to distinguish the gun from a real firearm, those sorts of things.

“Yeah, Crys, I think he should start on a rifle too,” Stephen responded, “but that Desert Eagle ® is just so cool!

“Well, which one’s the cheapest?” Crystal asked, ever the frugal shopper.

Since Russell’s birthday was still three weeks away, Stephen selected ground shipping and only paid about $10 to have the airsoft spring gun sent right to his door.

The day the package arrived, Stephen eagerly accepted it from the delivery man. He took it into his bedroom where Crystal was busy wrapping some of Russell’s other birthday gifts.

“It’s here!” Stephen proclaimed excitedly as he handed the gun to his wife to be wrapped.

Several days later, the house bursting with eight year-old boys, the airsoft spring gun—concealed by sports-themed wrapping paper—served as the foundation for Russell’s pile of birthday presents.

After quite a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday to You sung around a cake that depicted a UK Wildcats logo, Russell fervently tore into the stack of gifts.

The packages contained typical fare for a small boy’s birthday: transforming action figures, building sets, sporting equipment and the like. But when Russell finally got to the bottom of the pile, Stephen’s and Crystal’s eyes sparked with intense anticipation.

Russell ripped the wrapping paper from the gift and instantly began shouting when he realized what he had just received:

“OH WOW!!! COOL!!! Thanks Mom and Dad! Now, I can practice shooting with you at Grandpa’s, Dad! This is so awesome! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!”

The child went on in this way for some minutes, and all his parents could do was smile. They were so pleased at having been able to give Russell so much joy on his birthday.
